Are most iPhone users high-income? Jul 10, 2018

Recently, a US media reported that the National Bureau of Economic Research has published a new paper in which authors infer consumer personal income based on consumer behavior and media usage. The study found that the iPhone is the most common symbol of consumer wealth.

The paper was written by the University of Chicago economist Marianne Bertrand and Emir Kamenica. The authors say: We analyze the secular trends of cultural differences between American groups based on income, education, gender, ethnicity, and political ideology. We measure cultural differences between two groups as an ability to infer a personal group based on media consumption, consumer behavior, time of use, and social attitudes.
